Entry Requirements

What You'll Need

  • Suitable if both your Maths and English are currently below Grade 4
  • A genuine interest in mechanical engineering and hands-on work
  • Successful interview with our team
You'll keep working towards Grade 4 in Maths and English alongside your course. Maths matters in engineering, so this is time well spent.
What You'll Learn

Make Real Components, By Hand and Machine.

This course is a hands-on introduction to mechanical engineering. You’ll work in the workshops learning to produce components using hand fitting techniques, and using milling and turning machines to shape metal to a spec. It is precise, satisfying work, backed by the core knowledge every engineer needs: safe working, using technical information, and carrying out activities effectively.

You’ll build a portfolio of evidence as you complete the practical tasks. By the end of the year you’ll be confident around a workshop and its machines, you’ll have real mechanical engineering skills to build on, and a clear route to the Level 2.

What You'll Do

  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Producing components using milling and turning equipment
