This is a one-year course designed to prepare students for application to University and provide the opportunity to gain the core skills and confidence for a successful career in their chosen discipline within this subject area.
The first third of the course; from September to November introduces workshops in a variety of media and subjects, from Drawing and Design disciplines; to specialisms like Fashion, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Fine art and Illustration. This also provides work for up to half of their portfolio needed for University applications.
The course begins at level 3 and in the Final Major Project moves up to level 4.
From November to February the students chose which area to specialise in, work in this area and make their University applications. The specialist work produced through set projects makes up the rest of the portfolio and is targeted towards their specific subject interest and the University courses of their choice.
And from February to June the students engage in a Final Major Project in their subject area. They write their own brief and work towards producing work for the end of year exhibition where a selection of this work will be shown to the public.
This final project at Level 4 enables the student to get an experience of working at level 4 and in many ways is taught in the same manner of the first year at Degree.
It develops the confidence and independence needed for Degree level as well as a familiarity with what is needed to do well on a Degree course.
Our specialist facilities, base room with individual student spaces and highly qualified and experienced staff provide a stimulating and fast paced course that have a long term and extremely beneficial kick start to an enjoyable and rewarding career in Art and Design.
