If you want to understand what goes on behind the camera in Film and TV and why things happen the way they do in such a diverse industry this course is right for you. The Diploma in Creative Media Production (Film and TV Production) is a one year course designed to give you an introduction to the Film and Television industries.
Build your idea from script to screen using the processes and techniques of the industry. From pre-production, production and post-production , you will have access to a range of professional equipment from HD camcorders to cranes and tracks to enhance your films. Create stunning visual effects in our green screen room or create a TV show for our DCTV channel, using industry broadcast live streaming mixers by BlackMagic Design; here at Doncaster College you can explore your inner filmmaker.
Through a variety of external contacts there are always opportunities available for you to gain invaluable work experience to be used in your showreel and CV. Clients in the past have varied from Doncaster Council, RDaSH and various Live stream awards.
The course is delivered through a series of 8 units, each with their own set of assignments.
Units 1-3: You will be creating a variety of video content, exploring short film, single camera production, VFX and advertising. Within this you will cover the theoretical links to narrative and audience, while practicing research techniques to structure your idea and roles within the industry. Workshops are held to allow you to practice with equipment and build production skills.
Units 4-7: Are focused on developing your skills further through the creation of a TV show, music video and exploring the context of Hollywood and independent film. In these units you will be learning interactive media skills and creating a website. Sound design will also factor into these units to make you broadcast ready. From the skills you have acquired in Units 1-7,
Unit 8: Allows you the freedom to select a video project of your choice, that may have been explored throughout the year to take forward for the final major project. This could range from a short film to a music video or even a documentary.
Entry Requirements:
To join the Level 3 Film and TV production course you must have :
- 4-5 GCSEs grades A*-C (Including English C or above & Maths D or above)
or
- a Level 2 Diploma at a Merit
- 4-5 GCSEs grades A*-C (Including English C or above & Maths D or above)
- or a Level 2 Diploma at a Merit
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
All students will need to present a small creative project at interview.
