Doncaster College Floristry Team Shines at the Chelsea Flower Show

Posted: 26/06/2025

Doncaster College floristry students and staff have returned from the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show with pride and an award!

A team of talented floristry students and tutors from Doncaster College showcased an incredible floral display at this year’s world-renowned Chelsea Flower Show, impressing visitors, professionals, and even floral royalty.

Their colourful and imaginative installation, called ‘Colour My World’, was an incredible 5-metre by 5-metre exhibit with vivid tropical blooms, recycled elements, and hundreds of glass jars. The display demonstrated not only the high level of creativity, teamwork, and craftsmanship but also Doncaster College’s strong commitment to sustainability and innovation in floral design.

A Proud Moment for Doncaster

Jade Loftus, Doncaster College Floristry Tutor, led the student team and praised their dedication:

“I’m so proud of my students. They have really gone above and beyond everything I expected. We’ve achieved it, and I feel like we’re doing it for Doncaster.”

Simon Lycett, an internationally acclaimed British florist known for his royal and celebrity designs, also shared his glowing praise:

“I couldn’t be prouder of the brilliant work by Doncaster College. The floristry students were excited and inspired. They worked long, hard hours and created an installation filled with colour and joy. It’s an experience they’ll never forget.”

Success in the ‘Floral Creation’ Competition for Tutor Jade

Not only did Jade support the college’s main installation, but she also competed in the ‘Floral Creation’ category with her piece titled ‘Lunar Texture’, featuring Ornithogalum, Gomphocarpus physocarpus, and Senecio rowleyanus.

Her beautiful display explored the textures of the moon and colours of the northern lights, evoking a celestial theme that wowed visitors and judges alike. Her display earned Jade a Silver Gilt Medal, a prestigious recognition of her artistry and excellence.

We’re immensely proud of Jade for her achievement and the recognition she has brought to Doncaster College on this international stage.

Highlighting Doncaster Talent on a National Stage

This achievement is a major milestone for Doncaster College’s Floristry Department, placing both students and staff in the spotlight at one of the most respected horticultural events in the world.

A big well-done to course leader Jo Cullingworth and tutor Jade Loftus, and all the students who helped bring this vision to life. We’re excited to continue supporting creative talent and helping students access unique, career-defining opportunities like the Chelsea Flower Show.
