Let’s Share Best Practice for Onboarding Industry Experts into FE!

We are inviting Lead and Advanced Practitioners, Heads of TLA, and Quality leaders from across Further Education to take part in a collaborative session focused on effectively onboarding and developing staff joining FE directly from industry.

Colleagues entering FE from sectors such as Engineering, Construction, Motor Vehicle, and other technical and vocational specialisms bring invaluable real‑world experience. However, many require targeted and structured support to transition confidently into teaching, assessment, and the wider FE landscape.

This session aims to bring together a small network of TLA and Quality leaders to share practical approaches and lessons learned, with a focus on what genuinely makes a difference for industry‑to‑FE new starters.

We will explore and share:

• Effective onboarding and induction models for industry professionals
• High‑impact induction activities and early‑stage support
• Building confidence in pedagogy, planning, assessment and classroom practice
• Mentoring, coaching and support structures that work
• Lessons learned from supporting new starters in practical and technical curriculum areas

This is an opportunity to collaborate, exchange best practice, and strengthen sector‑wide approaches, ensuring industry recruits feel supported, confident, and effective from day one.
