UAL Level 3 3D Game Art and Design – Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication

A two-year Level 3 focused on 3D concept modelling: 3D asset creation, environment art, sculpting, and node and blueprint creation. You'll master industry-standard software including Blender, Unreal Engine and Substance Painter, taught by industry-experienced tutors. Year one builds fundamentals across eight units. Year two extends into five specialist units, ending with a self-directed project of your own.

What You'll Need

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English Language/Literature
  • A portfolio at interview is beneficial
  • A genuine interest in 3D modelling, environment art or game development
  • Successful interview with our team
If any of your Maths or English is below Grade 4, you'll continue working towards it alongside your course.
What You'll Learn

3D Asset Creation. Environment Art. Real Software.

This course covers the 3D side of games development: 3D asset creation, environment art, sculpting, blueprints, and node creation. You’ll master leading software including Blender, Unreal Engine and Substance Painter. Tutors are industry-experienced and guide you through the intricacies of each tool.

Year one is 8 units that progressively build skills, knowledge and understanding in creative development. Year two is 5 units that extend your learning and give you the chance to generate and explore a project of your own choice. Assessment is a mix of portfolio (with development blogs), written narratives and presentations. By the end of the two years you’ll have a specialist 3D portfolio ready for university, apprenticeship or work.
