We’re incredibly proud to announce that one of our own students, Destini, has been awarded a gold medal and first place at the WorldSkills UK finals on the 28th of November at Cardiff & Vale College.
Taking part in the Foundation cookery, Destini wowed judges by preparing a main and a dessert that aligned with the competition brief, which was Italian and Mediterranean in influence, while also taking dietary needs and allergies into account.
The main Destini prepared were Nduja gnocchi, roasted butternut squash, alsa verde and crispy sage. The dessert was buttermilk panna cotta, hazelnut crumble, blood orange and honey-roasted figs.
Throughout the competition, the regional heats and the final Destini has shown determination and professionalism. Regarding feedback from other tutors across other colleges and the judges, they praised Destini’s work, saying it was truly incredible.
When asked about her experience, Destini said:
“I entered because I wanted a challenge, and it felt like a great opportunity to experience what a real competition is like. Being there made me feel accomplished, even without winning; I was genuinely proud of myself for stepping outside my comfort zone. I felt fulfilled. I’d encourage others to take part too, so they can experience competition for themselves and develop their skills alongside like-minded students from different colleges.”
