Doncaster College Floristry Tutor Selected for Prestigious Chelsea Flower Show 2025

Posted: 16/04/2025

The Doncaster College Floristry department has proudly been selected to exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show 2025 — but that’s not all. Adding to the excitement, our talented Floristry tutor, Jade Loftus, has also been chosen to participate in the highly competitive ‘Floral Creation’ category.

“I’m still pinching myself,” Jade shared. “I never thought in a million years I would get selected, alongside the college as well. It’s the perfect storm.”

Jade will go head-to-head with nine other chosen florists, all competing for the RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year medal.

2025 Floral Creation Theme: Texture

The theme this year for the category was ‘texture’, which gave the applicants plenty of freedom to explore their creativity. Out of thousands of submissions, Jade’s design, called ‘Lunar Texture,’ captured the judges’ attention.

“I’ve taken inspiration from the textures of the moon and the colours of the northern lights, which I was lucky enough to see towards the end of last year from my garden, which was amazing.”

Jade’s design will be displayed on a cork plinth, built using recycled foam board covered in a textural layer of bark, seed, and natural fibres, combining sustainability with visual storytelling.

“There’s quite a lot of recycled elements in mind, so I think RHS liked that factor.” Jade commented, “All RHS shows are foam-free, so everything is in water and glass, making it all environmentally friendly.”

The floral elements of her design include Ornithogalum, Gomphocarpus physocarpus, and Senecio rowleyanus, creating a celestial, textured display that’s sure to draw attention.

Countdown to The Chelsea Flower Show 2025

With just over a month until showtime, Jade is balancing dual roles, preparing both her creation and the college’s display.

“It’s going to be a stressful weekend, that’s for certain.” She admitted, “A lot of my display can be pre-done, I just need to make sure I’ve put aside some time to flower it when I’m there.”

“The students will know what they’re doing by then, so I’ll have a little bit of headspace. But yeah, I’ll just give it my all.”

We’re incredibly proud of Jade and know she’ll shine at Chelsea. We wish her luck in the Floral Creation category and can’t wait to see her Lunar Texture display come to life.
