Level 2 Diploma in Digital and Creative Industries

Our level 2 digital and creative programme is one year of study that equips learners with a basic understanding and a variety of skills in multiple areas of the creative and digital sector. The course covers subjects such as games development, sound production, graphic design, animation and more.

Once fully completed, students are then able to progress onto one of our Level 3 programs, which are equivalent to 3 A-Levels. We have four progression routes within the department, learners can specialise in film and television, graphics, and social media, digital art and animation and 3D concept modelling.

(This course is designed as an additional year of study for students who have not achieved their desired grades or qualifications in English, Maths, or other subjects at GCSE level.)

  • Preparing To Work [3 Credits]: In this first unit you will explore the various job roles available in the creative sector and assess your skills and progression opportunities.
  • Games Industry [3 Credits]: In this early unit you will be learning about how the sectors of the games industry work – console development, AAA games, Indie games etc.
  • Game Design [6 Credits]: You will use software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create assets for your own game idea.
  • Digital Narratives [3 Credits]: You will learn about narratives, story arcs and create story boards in adobe illustrator.
  • Animation [6 Credits]: You will explore different types of animation and create your own 2D piece using traditional techniques (frame by frame, motion tween).
  • Sound Production [6 Credits]: You will learn about the basic sound production software and processes before creating sound effects to synchronise with existing footage.
  • Graphic Design [6 Credits]: You will be researching contemporary designs and approaches in current media and learning to create your own projects with Adobe Photoshop.
  • Digital Photography [6 Credits]: You will study the functions of professional cameras and create a portfolio of your own photography based on a chosen theme.
  • Creative Industries Project [6 Credits]: For this final project you will choose a theme from one of the previous units and be given the opportunity to create your own unique piece of work to demonstrate all you have learned.

Creating a portfolio of work from a pre-made google site template. Projects will be assessed through a combination of verbal (recorded, formative) and written (summative) feedback.

3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. (English preferred).
