Entry Requirements

What You'll Need

  • Suitable if both your Maths and English are currently below Grade 4
  • A genuine interest in engineering and working with your hands
  • Successful interview with our team
You'll keep working towards Grade 4 in Maths and English alongside your course, built into your timetable. Maths matters in engineering, so this is time well spent.
What You'll Learn

Get in the Workshop From Day One.

This is a hands-on introduction to engineering. You’ll spend your time in the workshops learning to work safely with tools and machinery, produce engineering drawings, and get stuck into welding and fabrication with real materials. It is practical from the start, but it is backed by the core knowledge every engineer needs: safe working, using technical information, and the maths behind the job.

You’ll build a portfolio of evidence as you work through the practical tasks. By the end of the year you’ll know your way around a workshop, you’ll have real welding and fabrication skills to build on, and a clear route to the Level 2 Welding Techniques certificate.

What You'll Do

  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Producing engineering drawings
  • Welding and fabrication techniques
  • Maths for engineering
