L4 Process Leader Apprenticeship Standard

Process Leaders are found in organisations with high volume manufacturing or advanced manufacturing processes in which large volumes of products are made in assembly, moulding, metal processing, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, textiles, food and drink, or similar processes.

They are also found in organisations with engineering operations or low volume manufacturing processes in which lower volumes of products are made in a bespoke or workshop type environment. The core knowledge, skills and behaviours of this apprenticeship will be developed and demonstrated in a specific manufacturing context and are broadly transferable to other manufacturing sectors.

    This apprenticeship has a typical duration of 24 months training period plus additional time to complete the end point assessment.

There is no formal technical qualification, evidence of achievement relates to work-based activities. The apprentice will create a work-based portfolio of evidence, this will form part of the end-point assessment (EPA). The EPA assessment will be undertaken at the end of the 24 months and will include:

Assessment method 1: Workplace observation

Assessment method 2: Project, presentation, and Q&A

Assessment method 3: Professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence

End-point assessment activities throughout the 24 months

There is an option for employers to support the apprentice to complete four HNC Manufacturing units as part of an HN Flex delivery (please enquiry about fees) the apprentice will complete:

Unit 12 Engineering Management

Unit 14: Production Engineering for Manufacture

Unit 17: Quality and Process Improvements

Unit 82: Statistical Process Control

Occasional changes to modules and course content may take place. Apprentices will be notified when applicable.

This standard aligns with the following professional recognition:

Achievement of the standard is designed to be recognised by relevant Professional Engineering Institutions such as the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) for at the appropriate level of professional registration (EngTech).

The Levy fee will cover most costs associated with your course (including registration, tuition, and assessment).

There may be some extra costs that you might need to make, or choose to pay, for example:
• Books (you’ll have access to books from your module reading lists in the HE library, but you may wish to buy your own copies)
• Printing and photocopying
• Trips and enhancement opportunities
• As the programme requires vocational hours within the Mental Health and Wellbeing arena, you may be required to pay for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check if you are not in possession of a current one or registered on the update service.
