College Welcome & Taster Events – Overview
Our College Welcome and Taster Events are designed to help students prepare for their chosen course and feel confident about starting college. These sessions give learners the opportunity to meet tutors, explore learning environments, and take part in practical activities linked to their curriculum area.
Across the events, students will be introduced to course expectations, timetables, uniform and equipment requirements, and important health and safety information. Many sessions also include tours of specialist facilities, an overview of course structure and assessments, team‑building activities, and opportunities to ask questions and meet key support teams.
Whether students are progressing onto a practical trade, a creative subject, or an academic pathway, these events provide a supportive and informative start to college life and help ensure everyone arrives ready to succeed.

Animal Management Taster Sessions
Animal Management
Students will explore the Animal Management curriculum through introductory sessions and hands‑on practical activities.
Business & Enterprise Taster Sessions

Students will be introduced to Business and Enterprise through tutor introductions, team‑building activities, discussion of expectations and work placements, and meeting the M&E team.
Catering & Hospitality Taster Sessions
Catering & Hospitality
This session introduces Catering and Hospitality through uniform ordering, kitchen tours, health and safety guidance, practical activities, team‑building, and meeting tutors and the M&E team.
Construction Taster Sessions
Advanced Technician Studies
This session introduces the technical area through practical activities, facility familiarisation, and uniform and boot sizing.
Brickwork
Students will be introduced to Brickwork through practical construction activities, workshop orientation, and uniform and boot sizing.
Carpentry & Joinery
This event introduces Carpentry and Joinery through hands‑on practical activities, workshop familiarisation, and uniform and boot sizing.
Multi Skills
Students will be introduced to the Multi Skills area through practical activities, workshop orientation, and uniform and boot sizing.
Painting & Decorating
This session introduces Painting and Decorating through practical activities and uniform and boot sizing.
Plastering
Students will explore the Plastering area through practical activities and uniform and boot sizing.
Plumbing
This event introduces the Plumbing area through practical activities and uniform and boot sizing.
Digital Technologies Taster Sessions
Digital Technologies
This session introduces Digital Technologies through a curriculum overview and practical, hands‑on learning activities.
Education, Early Years Taster Sessions
Education, Early Years
This session introduces the Early Years curriculum, including DBS information, uniform requirements, and practical activities related to working with children.
Engineering Taster Sessions
Electrical & Mechanical Engineering
Students will take part in practical engineering activities, including boot and overall sizing, tailored to their course level.
Electrical Installation
This session introduces Electrical Installation through practical wiring activities, including a 13‑amp plug task, alongside boot and overall sizing.
Fabrication & Welding
Students will experience Fabrication and Welding using a virtual welder, with a focus on workshop readiness and boot and overall sizing.
Motor Vehicle
This event introduces Motor Vehicle studies through workshop safety, basic mechanical tasks, and boot and overall sizing.
ESOL Taster Sessions

This session will introduce the ESOL curriculum and focus on practical language‑based activities.
Floristry Taster Sessions

Students will be introduced to the Floristry course through uniform ordering, health and safety guidance, a tour of the floristry workshop and shop, practical activities, team‑building, and meeting tutors and the M&E team.

Hair and Beauty Taster Sessions

Students will explore the Level 1 Beauty course through an introduction to expectations, uniform ordering, salon tours, health and safety, team‑building activities, and meeting tutors and the M&E team.
Beauty (Level 2 Beauty, Level 2 Nails only)
This session introduces students to Level 2 Beauty and Nails, including uniform ordering, salon tours, health and safety, course structure and assessment dates, team‑building activities, and opportunities to meet tutors and the M&E team.
