Huge National Apprenticeship Week Success at Doncaster College

Posted: 23/02/2026

Doncaster College celebrated National Apprenticeship Week with record-breaking attendance at a dynamic programme of events designed to showcase the benefits of apprenticeships and career development.

Held between the 9th and 15th February, the events brought together apprentices, employers and college staff to highlight the powerful impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

Celebrating ‘Skills for Life’

This year’s National Apprenticeship Week theme, “Skills for Life,” focused on the lasting impact apprenticeships have on both individuals and businesses. A series of activities was organised to engage employers, apprentices, prospective students and staff.

Events included a well-attended employer breakfast, providing local businesses with the opportunity to connect with apprenticeship specialists and explore how apprenticeships can support workforce development and future talent pipelines.

Doncaster College also hosted an open event for prospective apprentices, giving potential learners the chance to discover how apprenticeships combine paid employment with high-quality training, enabling them to build practical skills while starting their careers.

During the week, apprenticeship staff presented certificates of recognition to employer partners, celebrating their continued commitment to supporting young people and investing in apprenticeship training programmes.

Skills Competitions Showcase Apprentices’ Talent

The week also featured a range of skills competitions and practical challenges, designed to celebrate excellence and encourage the sharing of best practice across different curriculum areas.

Electrical apprentices tested their technical expertise in a lively “wire a plug” speed challenge, demonstrating both precision and professionalism under pressure. Activities like these highlight the hands-on nature of apprenticeship learning and the technical skills apprentices develop during their training.

Supporting Apprentices, Employers and Economic Growth

Kathy Bennett, Director of Apprenticeships at DN Colleges Group, said:

“Apprenticeship Week is a celebration of the skills, resilience and growing confidence of our apprentices, and of the dedicated staff who guide and support them. Together, we turn potential into achievement and ambition into lifelong opportunity.”

National Apprenticeship Week continues to highlight the vital role apprenticeships play in supporting economic growth, improving social mobility and creating skilled workforces for the future.
