1000 visitors to the DN Colleges Group Student Support Centres.

Posted: 04/05/2021

DN Colleges Group are delighted to have reached 1000 visitors to the Student Support Centres, since September 2020. The Student Support Centres are based at Doncaster College, North Lindsey College, and are available to access online, the Centre has helped over 1000 students, apprentices, parents, and carers so far this year.

The Student Support Centre was established in 2019 to serve the College community as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for support. This was the vision of Kathryn Dixon, a recently retired Director.

Staff offer support, advice, and guidance on a variety of concerns, such as careers and progression; housing and homelessness; finance and budgeting; friendship and relationships; as well as enrichment, fitness, and mental health.

Rachel Roddis, a Pastoral Coach for DN Colleges Group commented on working in the Student Support Centre, “Working in the department is a valuable and rewarding experience. Meeting and offering support to each visitor, the interaction it brings, and ways to offer support tailored to individual needs and requirements.”

Pastoral Coach, Faye Barsby said “In the 18 months since opening our doors, we have seen over 2500 visits to the Centre, and we look forward to supporting many more students both on site and virtually.”

The students and staff within DN Colleges Group have felt a positive impact due to the help that the Student Support Centres offer, and that shows in their feedback to the Support Centre staff. FE student Jodie told the Centre “A phone call from the Centre sets me up for the week. Thank you so much for your constant help and support”.

While Jason showed his appreciation, saying “Thank you for checking up on me. I am so appreciative of the help you have given me previously and I am grateful for your help”.
